WHAT IS

The SIBO Test consists of a breath test, easy and safe, that analyzes the gases produced by intestinal gas during digestion.

After ingesting a solution of glucose or lactulose, collect samples of exhaled air at regular intervals to measure the concentration of hydrogen and methane.

An abnormal increase of these gases indicates an excess of bacteria in the small intestine, which allows you to detect SIBO and guide to the specialist about the most appropriate treatment.

The test has a approximate duration of three hours. You can do it at home in a simple way by picking up the kit in any of our authorized centers for the SIBO Test.

If you want the test done by the staff at one of our centers, please note opening hours, or care to the patients and the duration of the test is about three hours.

WHAT ANALYSES

The SIBO Test analyzes the presence and concentration of:

● Hydrogen (H₂) in exhaled air

● Methane (CH₄) in exhaled air

These gases are measured at regular intervals during the breath test.

An anomalous increase indicates a bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine-known as SIBO.

In summary, the test evaluates the bacterial fermentation of intestinal and allows you to diagnose if there is an imbalance that affects the digestion, absorption of nutrients and digestive comfort.

PREPARATION

The preparation is fundamental for the interpretation of results reliable.

4 weeks before performing the test

● Not having taken antibiotics, or laxatives.

● Not having undergone colonoscopy, intestinal washing or contrast enema

2 weeks before performing the test

● Not having taken Prokinetics (Cinitaprida, Domperidone, metoclopramide, etc).

● Not been made enteroscopy or gastroscopy.

48 hours before the completion of the test

● Must not have taken another breath test.

24 hours before the completion of the test

Do NOT eat:

● Legumes, vegetables, fruit, potatoes, nuts, hard candy, chewing gum, sweets, home or industrial, onions, cabbage, bread, cereals, pasta (except white rice).

● Carbonated beverages or alcoholic.

● Sausages made.

● Milk or milk products (yogurt, cheese,...)

● Smoked fish.

● Meals that will occur normally discomfort, gastric or intestinal

YES you can eat:

● Eggs (boiled, fried, etc), meat of any origin, white or blue fish, rice, ham serrano or iberian.

● Coffee, coffee without sugar or sweeteners.

● ATTENTION: None of the food prior to you can carry in your preparation a sauce of onions, garlic, tomatoes, or dried fruits.

● Yes, you can eat Probiotic.

12 hours before

● Be fasting, you can only drink water.

● Do not perform intense physical exercise

On the same day of the test

● Take with water the usual medications, unless contraindicated by the test (antibiotics, prokinetics).

● Brush your teeth WITHOUT TOOTHPASTE, and rinse with elixir mouth in order to decrease bacteria in the mouth.

● Avoid using the adhesive the denture.

● Do not smoke, or take any candy or gum, or carry out any kind of exercise.

● During the test do not drink, and be at rest.

If you suffer from acute gastroenteritis during the week prior to the test, you will need to delay a week in the completion of the test.
