Intolerance Test (Lactose, Fructose, Sorbitol) and SIBO

If you're going to have a breath test to study if you have an intolerance to sugars or bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine (SIBO), we recommend read the following information carefully. PURPOSE

The breath test (H2/CH4) aim to detect the intolerance to sugars (lactose, fructose, etc) that are present in regular diet, fresh food, packaged, or in the excipients present in the drug. PREPARATION

4 weeks before performing the test

Do NOT eat:

  • Legumes, vegetables, fruit, potatoes, nuts, hard candy, chewing gum, sweets, home or industrial, onions, cabbage, bread, cereals, pasta (except rice), carbonated beverages or alcoholic, sausages made, milk or milk products (yoghurt, cheese), smoked fish.
  • Meals that will occur normally discomfort, gastric or intestinal.

IF you can take:

  • Eggs (boiled, fried, etc), meat of any origin, white or blue fish, rice, ham serrano or iberian.
  • Tofu-white
  • Coffee, coffee without sugar or sweeteners.

12 hours before

  • Be fasting, you can only drink water.
  • Do not perform intense physical exercise.

On the same day of the test:

  • Take with water your usual medications, unless contraindicated by the test (antibiotics, prokinetics).
  • Wash your teeth WITHOUT TOOTHPASTE, you will rinse with elixir mouth in order to decrease bacteria in the mouth.
  • Avoid using the adhesive the denture.
  • Shall not smoke, nor take candy, or gum, or perform any type of exercise.

DURATION OF THE TEST

3-4 hours.

PROCEDURE

During the test do not drink, and be at rest.
