D-Xylose test in blood and urine
If you are going to have the proof of D-Xylose in the blood and urine, please read carefully the following information to ensure that the procedure is performed correctly and the results are accurate and reliable. This test is requested for to assess the uptake of Xylose and Carbohydrates at the intestinal level. To do this will be swallowed up in the lab a standard amount of Xylose and subsequently measure their content in the blood and urine of the patient.

48 hours prior to the test:
- You may not take the following medications: aspirin, indomethacin, neomycin, digoxin, glizipida, kanamycin, opioids, MAOIS, or nalidixic acid.
- You will not be able to eat bread, starches, baked goods, jellies or juices.
- You'll only be able to eat meat, milk, dairy products and fish.
The day the test is performed:
- Go fasting for 12 hours (yes, you can drink water).
- You should perform the test in morning.
- Take your usual medications, except as we have indicated above, always consult with your doctor.
During the conduct of the test:
- Avoid all physical activity and sit.
DURATION OF THE TEST

The nurse will tell you to go to the TOILET. This first morning urine is not collected, is discarded by the toilet.
Then, there will be a extraction of blood and later you will be given a solution with 25 grams of D-Xylose (0.5 g/kg of weight in children, up to a maximum of 25 grams) and at the end of 2 hours will be another blood draw.
Since I take the D-Xylose, and in the following 5 hours, take 4 cups of water. Collect all of the urine into the jars which will help you in the lab.
If during the test you are vomiting, it is interrupted and it will be another day, being necessary to repeat the test from the start.
