Semen collection protocol

If you're going to get a semen analysis, for a control post vasectomy or a fertility study, we recommend read the following information carefully to ensure that the sample is obtained and maintained properly. Following the guidelines is essential to ensure that the results are accurate and reflect reliably the quality and characteristics of the fluid to be analyzed.

PURPOSE

The collection of a semen sample for analysis responds to two different objectives:

  • Post vasectomy: to assess the fertilizing ability of semen after vasectomy performed.
  • Study of Fertility: basic analysis, morphological and numerical, of the sperm existing in the male ejaculate.

PREPARATION

  • Keep a sexual abstinence of 3 to 5 daysnever exceed 7.
  • Do not pick up the show if you've presented with a fever or illness in the previous 7 days.

PROCEDURE

  • Empty the bladder before collecting the semen.
  • Wash your hands and genitals with soap, rinsing thoroughly with water.
  • Get the semen masturbationpicking up on the full sample.
  • Not using condoms to collect the sample.
  • Collect the sample in a container sterile plastic wide-mouth.
  • Protect the semen of the light, of the cold and intense heat. Seek carry it close to your body to keep it at the proper temperature (the nearest 36ºC, which is the body temperature normal).
  • The sample should be delivered in the consultation draft of the hospital before 60 minutes from his collection.
