Urine test for uroculture

If you're going to have a urine culture, please read carefully the following instructions to ensure that the urine sample is obtained successfully, and the results are to be accurate and reliable. You will find specific guidelines for women, men and babies. Follow the steps of preparation, hygiene, and collection will help you to avoid contamination, and that the taking of samples to be developed easily and safely.

PURPOSE

This test is requested for diagnose the infection in the urine, and a guideline for appropriate antibiotic treatment.

PREPARATION

General it requires no preparationexcept that the doctor who prescribed the test will indicate otherwise.

PROCEDURE

This procedure consists in the collection of urine from the 1st hour of the morning for the realization of urine culture.

For the realization of this test you will need a sterile packaging of 100ml wide mouth and an airtight sealor in the case of infants, a sterile bag for urine (buy more than one), both sold in pharmacies.

The day of the testnothing more you get up, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

For women:

Separating the labia major and minor, lava, with a chiffon soapy whole genital area, and perineal. The washing should be done from front to back. Rinse with plenty of water to remove all traces of soap. Dry the area washed with a sterile gauze pad in the same direction that the wash.

For men:

To retract completely to the foreskin and clean the glans penis with mild soap. Rinse with plenty of water to remove all traces of soap.

Sample (men and women)

Urine, a small amount (first jet) in the toilet bowl, interrupted urination, and continues to urinate directly in the pan until it is half full. Close the bottle so that the lid is tight and airtight.

For babies:

Wash out the genital carefully and clarify, following the same guidelines that have been mentioned above.

Paste the bag and remove as soon as the baby urinate.

In the event that the baby does not urinate within 30 minutes, you will need to remove the bag, rinse off with lukewarm water the genital area, dry and put back another bag, this will prevent the urine from becoming contaminated.

Maintenance of the sample (for all):

Keep urine refrigerated until delivered to the laboratory. Do not take more than 2 hours from the issuance of the urine up to the delivery.
